This pattern is great for beginners. It includes only NEWBORN size. It is an easy work up and includes instructions for a beanie and a pom pom and is knit flat. 

You must know the basics of knitting and be able to follow basic knitting instructions for this pattern, and know how to decrease. You will need super bulky yarn (I like malabrigo rasta), size 17 US knitting needles, a tapestry needle, cardboard for the pom pom, needle and thread for pom pom, and scissors.
